The origin of the Rare Breed Mi-Ki (pronounced Mee Kee) dog is not known with certainty, but with a lot of research this is the history to the best of our knowledge. It is thought that the development of the Mi-Ki breed is the result of the founder, Maureen Westburg.
The first Mi-Kis on record, are listed under one of the three different kennel names she used at that time. The kennel are: In Chan Ting, Kea Huna, and Tee-Nee. These different Kennel Names all appear on all the Mi-Ki pedigrees, since all Mi-Kis came from the same blood lines.
It is also thought that it took Maureen approximately 10 years (1981 to 1991) to create the strain that is now known as the Rare Breed Mi-Ki dog. When Maureen developed her beloved little jewel, she was and still is living in Milwaukee, WI. Canadians have embraced the Mi-Ki but by and large presently the breed remains indigent to the USA....

08-27-23 Up at around 1 AM in terrible pain in my left leg. Waited all night till around 5 AM when I told my husband that I could not walk. He took me to the Emergency room of our local hospital. And we waited. Around 11 AM I was taken to Ultrasound and then Radiology. Nothing showed up but after speaking to the doctor we both agreed that I probably strained a tendon. I was given pain meds and we got home around 2 PM - my dog was very happy to see us. Able to walk without a cane by Sunday. Getting old sucks, just so you know. 07-30-2023 Back in May - after Sport was put to sleep - we finally decided to go to the local shelter to see if we could find a new love.
