Iguana (/ɪˈɡwɑːnə/, Spanish: [iˈɣwana]) is a genus of herbivorous lizards that are native to tropical areas of Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. The genus was first described in 1768 by Austrian naturalist Josephus Nicolaus Laurenti in his book Specimen Medicum, Exhibens Synopsin Reptilium Emendatam cum Experimentis circa Venena. Two species are placed in the genus, the green iguana, which is widespread throughout its range and a popular pet, and the Lesser Antillean iguana, which is native to the Lesser Antilles. Genetic analysis indicates that the green iguana may comprise a complex of multiple species, some of which have been recently described, but the Reptile Database considers all of these as subspecies of the green iguana.

08-27-23 Up at around 1 AM in terrible pain in my left leg. Waited all night till around 5 AM when I told my husband that I could not walk. He took me to the Emergency room of our local hospital. And we waited. Around 11 AM I was taken to Ultrasound and then Radiology. Nothing showed up but after speaking to the doctor we both agreed that I probably strained a tendon. I was given pain meds and we got home around 2 PM - my dog was very happy to see us. Able to walk without a cane by Sunday. Getting old sucks, just so you know. 07-30-2023 Back in May - after Sport was put to sleep - we finally decided to go to the local shelter to see if we could find a new love.
