HI Barbara again, I forgot to say thank you for the history on the Belgian Draft Horse, I never knew the background history. I myself owned a wonderful Suffolk Punch until his death. wonderful driving horse, I miss him terribly.

Artist's Description

* NOTE: 06-05-12 Print Sale to Toddville, IA

The Belgian draft horses were said to be descendants of the destriers or war horses, also called the “Great Horses” existing in the Middle Age, known for carrying knights in the war though there is no proper evidence to prove the same. The Brabant, also called the “European Belgian” was the foundation stock for the Belgian draft horses. Though developed in Europe, they were equally popular in America, with the “American Association of Importers and Breeders of Belgian Draft Horses” being set up in Wabash (Indiana) in the year 1887 for the purpose of keeping track on this breed. With the first world war there was a pause in the importing of horses to America that resumed in the 20s and 30s, and finally ended on the 15th of January, 1940 (horsebreedspictures.com).

Complete 2006 after 17.55 hours spread over 16 days.

08-27-23 Up at around 1 AM in terrible pain in my left leg. Waited all night till around 5 AM when I told my husband that I could not walk. He took me to the Emergency room of our local hospital. I was given pain meds and we got home around 2 PM - my dog was very happy to see us. Able to walk without a cane by Sunday. Getting old sucks, just so you know. 07-30-2023 Back in May - after Sport was put to sleep - we finally decided to go to the local shelter to see if we could find a new love. We noticed this guy that was just lying in his cage, so we decided to take a...
